The word Udhiya comes from the Arabic language, while the word Qurbani comes from the Arabic word Qurban and is used in Urdu and Persian. Udhiya means to sacrifice blood, and Qurbani means to do something to please Allah. In the Holy Quran Allah SWT said:
"Indeed, We gave you Al-Kauthar, which is a river in paradise. Pray to your Lord and make sacrifices. For he will be cut off who makes you angry."

"And the camels, We have made them part of Allah's rituals, so enjoy that!"
Qurbani is also called Udhiya, which means sacrifice. Muslims do this ritual when they go on Hajj and on Eid ul Adha. Qurbani is an important religious practise in Islam that millions of Muslims do every year on Eid ul Adha and the two days after it. Qurbani is the act of killing an animal for Allah Almighty. This can be a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim is a very important religious practise (AS). Hazrat Zaid bin Arkam says that the Prophet's (PBUH) friends asked him:
"What is this sacrifice, Ya Rasulullah?" He said, "That's how your ancestor Ibrahim did it." They asked, "What do we get out of it?" He SAW said, "There is a reward for every hair." This means that the reward for meat and other useful parts of an animal's body will be very high, but the reward for parts that aren't useful, like the hair, will also be very high.
Because of this, Qurbani should be done right and in full accordance with the rules of Islam. Here are a few important things you should know about Qurbani to learn more about its important rules and guidelines:
The first and most important rule is that to be eligible for Qurbani, Muslims must meet certain requirements. This is different from prayer, which is required for every Muslim. To be eligible for Qurbani, a person must be sane, at least 18 years old, a Muslim male or female, and have a certain amount of Zaakah. Also, Qurbani is required for everyone in the family, even kids, so the parents have to pay unless the kids are already adults. In short, if a person is allowed to pay Zaakah, he or she must also do Qurbani for himself and everyone in his or her family, even children.
The time of Qurbani is the second most important rule. This is very important because Allah SWT gives us very strict and specific rules about when to do this very important Islamic practise. From the 10th Zil-Hajj to the 12th Zil-Hajj, Qurbani can only be done after the Eid ul Adha prayer. It means that Muslims have to do their Qurbani in these three days. If this ritual is done before the right time, it must be done again, and if it is done after the right time, it was not done properly and will not be accepted.
The health and condition of the animal is the third most important thing for someone who wants to do Qurbani to remember. It is very important to know that animals that are sick, blind, physically disabled, too young, don't have the right number of teeth, or have broken horns cannot be sacrificed. It is not allowed to sacrifice a camel until it is at least five years old and has entered its sixth year. If a pilgrim kills a goat or cow as a sacrifice, it must have finished the second year and moved into the third. If it is a lamb, the seventh month should be over and the eighth month should have begun. Qurbani can be done with a goat, sheep, cow, bull, buffalo, or camel, but most people choose to do it with a goat. All of these animals can be given as Qurbani. Hazrat Ayesha R.A. said that the Messenger of Allah said, "The son of Adam does not do anything on the day of sacrifice that is more pleasing to Allah than the shedding of blood." On the day of resurrection, he will come with its hair, horns, and hooves, and the blood will fall in a place close to Allah before it hits the ground. So, make sure you're clean there.
Saying the Takbir at the time of the sacrifice is another important part of Qurbani that must be done right or your sacrifice will not be accepted. Bismillahi Allahu Akbar is the right thing to say during Takbir. It means "in the name of Allah, Allah is great." You don't have to say these words out loud. This is what the person making the sacrifice can say in his heart.
Cutting your nails and hair is another important thing that most of us forget. A person who is going to do Qurbani has to cut his nails or hair before the start of Zil-Hajj. If he forgets to do this, he has to wait until he sacrifices his animal in the way of Allah SWT.
From an Islamic point of view, you should keep the animal for a few days. Now, most people buy animals on the last day. An animal must be kept for as long as the owner cares about it and would be sad to see it go, but this is not required. You can choose which path to take to get the big reward.
